Queensland Arts Council CEO appointed to Festivals Australia Committee
 |
Arthur Frame AM, Artistic Director and CEO, Queensland Arts Council was appointed as a new Festivals Australia Committee member in 2007 for a three-year period. “It’s an honour to become a national committee member at a time when colourful, diverse and downright unusual festivals are popping up all over Australia,” said Mr Frame. Mr Frame’s extensive experience in the Arts has involved work as an actor, director, playwright, artistic director, and theatre manager for a number of prominent theatre companies such as the National Theatre Company in Perth, the Royal Court Theatre in London, The Queensland Theatre Company and The Gallery Theatre in Brisbane. In 2006, Mr Frame was the Artistic Director |
of one of the largest and most significant regional arts events in Australia, The Pacific Edge, Regional Arts Australia’s National Conference/Festival. Mr Frame is a strong advocate for regional arts, evidenced through his involvement with Queensland Arts Council since 1986 and his role as Artistic Director and CEO since 1999. He has also been a Regional Arts Australia Director for the last nine years. Queensland Arts Council supports a network of over 60 regionally based Local Arts Councils throughout the State and provides a broad and dynamic range of performances, exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, accredited volunteer training programs, arts related services and funding programs of assistance to Queensland communities. “I’ve always been a very strong believer in the culturally-led revitalisation of regional communities, and have seen the difference that the Arts and particularly festivals, can make to a regional community,” said Mr Frame. The Festivals Australia Committee provides advice to the Minister for the Enviromment, Heritage and the Arts, The Honourable Peter Garrett AM MP on the Australian Government’s Festivals Australia and Festivals Australia Regional Residencies programs. The Festivals Australia program funds new arts projects at community festivals, while the Festivals Australia Regional Residencies program funds communities to engage artists to help them develop new locally-themed arts projects for community festivals or celebrations.
