About Us

Queensland Arts Council is a not-for-profit organisation that ensures all Queenslanders have access to high quality arts. We present, produce, program, tour, fund and facilitate the arts right across Queensland.

Queensland Arts Council tours mainstage and school productions, plus multimedia art exhibitions. We also support Queensland communities to create their own arts events through funding, advice and resources.

Vision:

We believe that the Arts are an integral part of life.

The arts fabric is woven through the lives of individuals and communities.  Our vision is to strengthen that fabric and to tangibly enrich the lives of Queenslanders, no matter how geographically isolated, no matter how culturally diverse, with arts experiences, which make relevant their sense of place in Australian society in the 21st century.

Mission:

arts access statewide

Corporate Philosophy:

Our corporate philosophy is to contribute to local community cultural development by creating, developing and presenting quality arts products and services statewide and by nurturing and supporting the growth of Queensland's Arts industry.

Inherent in the pursuit of this philosophy is the recognition of the significant role and influence the Arts exert, economically, socially and educationally, in fostering the enjoyment and creative talent necessary for the development of our future arts practitioners and arts consumers.

Local Arts Councils:

Our network consists of incorporated Local Arts Councils (LACs) in 60 regional communities and includes in excess of 6,000 regional members.

Through this network, and QAC's partnerships with Queensland's leading performing arts companies, we provide a broad and dynamic range of performances, exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, arts related services and funding programs of assistance to Queensland communities.

These services make a pivotal contribution to the culturally led revitalisation of
regional communities.

QAC is strongly supported by both the Queensland Government (through long-standing partnerships with Arts Queensland and Education Queensland) and the Federal Government through the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and the Australia Council for the Arts

QAC works closely with Local Governments through the LAC network and also plays a national advocacy role for regional arts.  We are also able to leverage significant national outcomes for regional Queenslanders through our membership of Regional Arts Australia.

What we do

Queensland Arts Council operates three statewide touring programs and a regional community building service:

Ontour inschools tours live arts performances and workshops to schools statewide to ensure students from the city and the bush experience high quality arts from prep to Year 12. Over the past seven years, the program has performed to an audience of 3.4million Queensland students.

Ontour onstage is state’s most extensive mainstage performing arts program which showcases the finest artists and arts companies in theatre, comedy, music and dance across Queensland and Australia. Each year, the program covers almost 150,000km, reaching around 40,000 people in over 60 regional communities.

Ontour onexhibition tours multimedia visual arts exhibitions into everyday spaces such as libraries and cafes and are of a standard that attract regional galleries and museums. Reaching around 150,000 Queenslanders each year the program is the most extensive of its kind in Australia, ensuring all communities throughout regional Queensland have access to high quality visual arts experiences.

Creative incommunities creates a network of over 60 statewide communities, enabling Queensland Arts Council to deliver community building services including funding, advice and resources, including free online community resources for developing and delivering locally initiated arts projects.
